It will never stop confounding me
The mixed messages we are told
Like the face of Jesus is in everyone
Oh, but there's always a no
We hold the Imago Dei
I guess until its expression veers too far
From who? From where?
I'm still not sure, but someone else clearly holds the bar
I search their face to find Him there
I explore and I seek and I dig
To find the glimpses of goodness for you
To be told, oh honey, let me give you a tip
If you were to find it right it would have looked like THIS
See how it looks so much like me
Oh, but I just read the Bible you know
And Jesus just happens to reflect me
But why, I think, can't you see the goodness there
You just need to tilt your head some more
And there! Right there! Isn't it neat?
And there's so much more to explore
No, they say, that's too far gone they say
They scream and protest and then shout
But I no longer take the time or pay them mind
For within the other I find out
Red and yellow, black and white
We really are so precious in His sight
You know I will hold this to be true
And I promise we do not all need to look like you
